Sad News: Just In Seahawks Confirm Departure Of Another Top Talented Star

Jacob Eason, a former quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, has signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers, so he’s moving again. The signing coincides with Jordan Love, the starting quarterback, not practicing with the team while he looks to sign a new deal.

QB Jacob Eason has returned to the Packers. Not a hint that things are slowing down with Jordan Love,” ESPN’s Rob Demovsky wrote on July 23, 2024, on X. The decision was made to add a third quarterback for practice until the agreement was finalized. The former fourth-round selection Eason was here in May for a rookie minicamp tryout. LS Peter Bowden has been freed.
Eason is well-known to fans in the Pacific Northwest because of his outstanding 2019 collegiate campaign with the Washington Huskies. After being cut by the Indianapolis Colts in October 2021, quarterback Eason was grabbed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks. In August 2022, Seattle released Eason, less than a year later.
Former Seahawks quarterback Jacob Eason was a five-star recruit in high school.

As the No. 5 ranked player in the nation and a five-star recruit, Eason created quite a stir when he joined the NFL, according to 247Sports. Eason transferred to Washington after playing for the Georgia Bulldogs during his first two seasons.

Before the Colts selected the quarterback, Eason was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft. Eason, who stood 6-foot-6 and weighed 231 pounds, had the ideal size that NFL teams look for.

The Seahawks’ signal-caller never snapped a play in a regular-season contest. Unless Love and Green Bay continue to stand off, it appears that Eason will have a difficult time breaking into the Packers roster.
QB Geno Smith Joins Seahawks for Prove It Year in 2024: Insider

Although Sam Howell, a recent arrival, is the center of attention, Geno Smith has cemented his position as the Seahawks’ primary quarterback. PJ Walker, a former XFL star, was also signed by Seattle.

Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic identified Howell as a player to keep an eye on as Smith’s successor in 2025. Although Smith’s current contract only has two seasons left on it, he will need to win over new head coach Mike Macdonald in order to secure his place in the starting lineup beyond this one.
“Given his October 34th birthday and his projected $38.5 million 2025 cap hit—roughly 15 percent of the salary cap—this feels like a make-or-break year for Geno Smith,” Dugar wrote in a story published on July 17 under the headline “Seattle Seahawks roster breakdown: One thought on Geno Smith and every position group.” Smith performed admirably in 2022, and even though his statistical output declined in 2023, there are good reasons to think he can still start as quarterback.

“However, he’ll have to prove it to this new coaching staff because something seems to have to give way between age and price tag come next season. It’s likely that Smith will either be released in favor of a younger player like Sam Howell or prove he’s more than a stopgap and be signed to a revised deal.”
It will be interesting to see if Seattle keeps Walker on as the team’s third quarterback for this season or adds another young quarterback. Howell should play a big part in the preseason as the Seahawks rest Smith before kickoff.
