Pirates Sign Third-Round Pick Josh Hartle
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Josh Hartle, a left-handed pitcher from Wake Forest, who was their third-round pick in the 2024 MLB draft. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Hartle, 21, is the highest-drafted player the Pirates have signed so far, joining right-handers Matt Ager and Gavin Adams, left-hander Connor Wietgrefe, shortstop Duce Gourson, and catcher Derek Berg.
Hartle was ranked as the No. 70 prospect in the draft by MLB Pipeline. In his junior year, he posted a 6-3 record with a 5.79 ERA over 74 2/3 innings, striking out 81 batters. His sophomore year in 2023 was more impressive, earning him first-team All-American honors from Baseball America and the National Baseball Writers Association, with an 11-2 record and a 2.81 ERA. He was also named first-team All-ACC.
Hartle has been assigned to the Florida Complex League in Bradenton.
