Former Houston Texans Star Finds Happiness with Division Rival
DeAndre Hopkins, who spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Houston Texans, is now thriving with the Tennessee Titans. Drafted in the first round by the Texans in 2013, Hopkins was traded in 2020 and endured some injury-plagued seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.
Last season, Hopkins signed a two-year deal with the Titans and is now entering a contract year with the team. Despite his expiring contract, he expressed enthusiasm about staying in Tennessee.
“I love Tennessee. I love what Miss Amy [Adams Strunk, the Titans’ owner] is doing,” Hopkins said. “I think this is the happiest I’ve been in any organization, so I’ll just let that speak for itself.”
The Texans struggled in the 2023 season, finishing with a 6-11 record and missing the playoffs. Meanwhile, Hopkins looks forward to his future with the Titans, even as the Texans have bolstered their wide receiver corps with Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd.
For Texans fans, Hopkins’ comments might be bittersweet, considering his impressive tenure in Houston, where he recorded 632 receptions for 8,602 yards and 54 touchdowns. As a seasoned wide receiver, Hopkins had a strong season and will continue to be key in developing Titans quarterback Will Levis.
Back in Houston, the wide receivers’ room is packed with talent. With the addition of Stefon Diggs alongside Nico Collins and Tank Dell, the Texans have an elite set of weapons for their star quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Though Texans fans might miss Hopkins, they can be happy for him as he enters the season as the top wide receiver for the Titans.
