Draymond Green Reveals Possible Retirement Timeline’
With Klay Thompson now in Dallas, another key member of the Golden State Warriors’ long-time Big Three may soon depart as well. Draymond Green, appearing on the “Club 520 Podcast,” shared that he is likely to play only two more seasons before retiring.
“I’m on the wrong side of my downslide, like I’m headed into year 13,” Green said, according to ClutchPoints. “I probably got two more [seasons]. And so it’s important to start building for the next thing.”
Green, who averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game last season, is 34 years old and has two more guaranteed seasons on his contract, with a player option for 2026-27. His projected timeline aligns with his current contract situation.
While Green’s high basketball IQ might allow him to extend his career slightly, his physical decline will make it challenging to compete with younger, faster players. Despite connecting on a career-high 39.5% of his three-point attempts last year, Green has never been known for his speed, athleticism, or shooting.
The Warriors, who missed the playoffs last season, are facing the end of an era. Thompson left for the Mavericks in free agency, Green is considering retirement, and even Stephen Curry has recently hinted at uncertainty about his future with Golden State.
