**Yankees Cut Veteran Infielder to Add Jazz Chisholm Jr. to Active Roster**
BOSTON — Following the Yankees’ acquisition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Marlins, attention shifted to the team’s roster adjustments.
As the trade deadline approaches on Tuesday, rumors persist about potential additional moves to enhance the Yankees’ offense. To accommodate Chisholm Jr., who was traveling from Milwaukee (where the Marlins played over the weekend) to Boston, a roster spot had to be cleared.
Speculation included possibly cutting veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu or Jahmai Jones, the latter known for his positive impact on team chemistry despite limited playing time.
Ultimately, the Yankees chose to designate J.D. Davis for assignment on Sunday evening. Davis, acquired from the Athletics on June 23, played in only seven games for the Yankees, hitting .105 with two hits in 22 plate appearances and a .385 OPS. He also spent time on the injured list due to illness.
Chisholm Jr. started for the Yankees on Sunday night against the Red Sox, playing center field. Another roster move is expected on Monday when designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is activated from the injured list ahead of the series opener against the Phillies.
