The Mets have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Tyler Zuber from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-handed reliever Paul Gervase, according to Anthony DiComo.
Zuber has pitched just 3.1 innings in the major leagues this season, bringing his career total to 52.2 innings. He has posted a 5.13 ERA and a 5.99 FIP, with a 24.9 percent strikeout rate and a concerning 16.5 percent walk rate. Additionally, he has allowed 1.88 home runs per nine innings in his MLB career.
In Triple-A this year, Zuber has performed better, with a 2.49 ERA and a 3.60 FIP over 21.1 innings, showing improved walk and home run rates compared to his major league numbers.
Paul Gervase, the player the Mets are sending to the Rays, is a 24-year-old who has been pitching for Double-A Binghamton in 2024. Over 27.2 innings, he has recorded a 3.25 ERA and a 3.43 FIP, with a strong 38.0 percent strikeout rate and a 14.0 percent walk rate.
