ESPN News: Detroit Lions Face Another Huge Blow As They Lose Another Top Veteran

**Lions DE John Cominsky Out Indefinitely Due to MCL Injury**

Detroit Lions defensive end John Cominsky faces an extended absence after suffering an MCL injury, which could sideline him for at least 5-6 months. The injury occurred during a team drill, leading to his immediate removal from the practice field and subsequent diagnosis of a torn MCL, as reported by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo.

Despite the setback, the Lions are hopeful that Cominsky might return in time for the playoffs, depending on his recovery process, which will involve surgery and rehabilitation. In the meantime, the team will need to adjust their defensive strategy to compensate for his absence.

Cominsky was injured when he was rolled up on during morning practice, prompting the need for a cart to transport him off the field. The injury will leave the Lions without one of their key defensive players for an indefinite period. However, if the team advances to the playoffs, there’s a possibility he could make a return, contingent on the success of his surgery and rehab.

With Cominsky out, Detroit will rely more heavily on other defensive players like Josh Pascal, Marcus Davenport, and Mathieu Betts to fill the void. The defensive tackles, Mekhi Wingo and Levi Onwuzurike, will also need to step up their game.

Cominsky has been a significant part of the Lions’ defense over the past two seasons, playing 30 games, recording 66 tackles, and six sacks. Originally with the Atlanta Falcons, he was waived before the 2022 season and then signed by Detroit, where he quickly became an essential part of their defensive line. He re-signed with the Lions for two more years and has started 14 games in the 2024 season, including three playoff games, contributing 43 tackles and two sacks.

The Lions’ challenges have been further compounded by an injury to their offensive guard, Netane Muti, who sustained a shoulder injury during a team workout on Tuesday.
