**Padres Acquire Marlins Closer Tanner Scott in Major Trade**
The San Diego Padres have acquired left-handed closer Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins in a significant trade deal involving six players. The trade also includes right-handed pitcher Bryan Hoeing heading to San Diego.
In exchange, the Padres are sending left-hander Robby Snelling, right-hander Adam Mazur, and infielders Graham Pauley and Jay Beshears to the Marlins.
Tanner Scott, 30, had an impressive season with the Marlins, earning his first All-Star selection. This year, he has a 6-5 record, a 1.18 ERA, and 18 saves in 44 appearances. Over his eight-season career with the Baltimore Orioles (2017-2021) and the Marlins (2022-2024), Scott has compiled a 28-23 record, 51 saves, and a 3.63 ERA in 355 relief appearances. He has struck out 455 batters in 342 1/3 innings.
Bryan Hoeing, 27, joins the Padres with a 1-2 record and a 2.70 ERA this season, having appeared in 16 games with two starts. He has a 5.48 career ERA in 57 games (10 starts) over parts of three seasons with Miami.
The four players being sent to the Marlins include Graham Pauley, who has played 13 MLB games and has batted .125 with two home runs and five RBIs. He has primarily been in Triple-A this season. Adam Mazur, 23, made his MLB debut in June and has a 1-3 record with a 7.49 ERA in eight starts.
Robby Snelling, a 20-year-old first-round pick from 2022, has been playing at Double-A this season, while Jay Beshears, a 22-year-old selected in the 2023 sixth round, has split his time between Class-A and High-A.
