Five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett is set to announce his college commitment live on the 247Sports YouTube channel. Lockett, an explosive talent from Sachse, Texas, will reveal his choice on Wednesday, August 7, at noon CT/1 p.m. ET. His decision will come down to Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M.
Lockett, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, is ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver in the 2025 class by 247Sports. He is also considered the fifth-best player in Texas.
Initially ranked as a four-star prospect in August 2022, Lockett gained significant attention following a standout junior season last fall. He has received 31 offers from programs nationwide and visited all of his top schools over the summer.
Throughout the spring and summer, various schools have made their case. LSU and Florida State were early leaders, with Texas and Texas A&M gaining traction after Lockett’s visits. Alabama made a late push with a strong official visit, positioning itself as a potential frontrunner.
As of now, Texas is favored on the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions. The Longhorns are eager for a commitment after missing out on other high-profile recruits, including top-ranked wide receiver Dakorien Moore, who committed to Oregon in July.
Each contender has presented Lockett with a comprehensive plan for his football career and life beyond the sport. After finishing his visits in June, Lockett and his family took time to deliberate before setting the announcement date.
During his junior year, Lockett caught 59 passes for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 247Sports scouting report describes him as a physically gifted receiver with a 6-foot-7 wingspan, excellent body control, and explosive acceleration. While he may not have the absolute top-end speed of some peers, his overall athleticism and production make him a high-impact player with future NFL potential.
