The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly considering a trade to bring back popular player Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets. According to Bleacher Report, the proposed deal would send Finney-Smith to Dallas in exchange for Maxi Kleber and a protected 2025 first-round pick.
Although the Mavericks recently filled their roster spot by signing Spencer Dinwiddie to a one-year deal, trade rumors persist. The Nets, who previously acquired five first-round picks and a pick swap for Mikal Bridges, might be tempted to trade Finney-Smith back to Dallas, given his strong connection with the team and fans.
Finney-Smith, who was with the Mavericks from 2016 until his trade to the Nets at the 2023 deadline, made a name for himself as a valuable 3&D player.
He shot over 39% from three-point range during his time in Dallas. However, his shooting has dropped to 33.7% since joining the Nets, illustrating the challenge of playing without Luka Doncic.
The trade idea involving Maxi Kleber is appealing as Kleber’s $11 million salary is considered high relative to his production, and he has been plagued by injuries in the playoffs. While Kleber offers defensive versatility, Finney-Smith could provide similar benefits while potentially thriving in the familiar Mavericks’ environment.
