According to numerous media sources, the Arizona Diamondbacks acquired Josh Bell, a first baseman, from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for monetary considerations.
Hours before the trade deadline and a day after Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker left the game early against the Washington Nationals due to an oblique strain, the Miami Herald was the first to report on the transaction.
While earning $16.5 million in the last season of a two-year contract he signed with the Cleveland Guardians, Bell, 31, was placed on waivers on Saturday. According to sources, Arizona will cover Bell’s remaining $2.5 million debt for this season.
Bell has been dealt at the trade deadline for three seasons running. In 104 games this season, he is batting.239 with 14 home runs, 49 RBIs, a.305 on-base percentage, and a.394 slugging percentage.
Bell has spent parts of nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2016–20), Nationals (2021–22), San Diego Padres (2022), Guardians (2023), and Marlins. He was selected by the Pirates in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
He is a professional.258 hitter in 1,106 games with 166 home runs and 591 RBIs. 2019 was his greatest season as a batsman.With Pittsburgh, he hit 277 and set career highs with 37 home runs and 116 RBIs. He was also chosen for the National League All-Star team.
