Tom Willander, a defenseman, was supposed to compete for Team Sweden in the World Juniors Summer Showcase in Michigan, but his adviser has informed him that he would not be skating due to a “lower-body” problem.

In a text message to Postmedia on Thursday, Todd Diamond wrote, “Minor, just needs time and not pushing too hard right now.”

Willander, who will represent Boston University in NCAA hockey for the second time this winter, will be better soon, Diamond continued.
The wound was sustained a few weeks ago, but it hasn’t fully healed.

(Pro hockey agents are referred to as advisers in this context since they can work with NCAA athletes informally; agents are not permitted to represent players.)

The World Junior Showcase, which starts in Plymouth, Michigan on Friday, is a component of USA Hockey’s national team selection process. It ends on August 3.
Teams from Canada, Finland, and Sweden are chosen to compete in a series of games against Team USA and each other.

Willander participated in seven games for Sweden in the World Juniors in Gothenburg, Sweden, last winter, recording one goal and two assists.

He is anticipated to be a major contributor for Sweden in Ottawa at the 2025 World Juniors.
In 38 games during his rookie season at BU last winter, Willander finished with four goals and 25 assists.
