Before committing in August, a local defensive back is giving the University of Miami one more look.
Bryce Fitzgerald, a four-star defensive back from Columbus High School, is coming to UM for the Saturday barbecue on campus. This is the last chance for recruits to visit before a month-long recruiting dead period starts this week.
On August 17, Fitzgerald is anticipated to announce his college choice. His recruiting is seen as a competition between Miami, Florida, and FSU, the “Big Three” from the state of Florida. In June, Fitzgerald paid formal visits to all of those institutions of higher learning.
Fitzgerald, who is 6 feet 175 pounds, is rated by 247Sports as a four-star recruit and the 216th best player in the nation overall.
Fitzgerald has the potential to be a skilled defensive back with a keen sense of football. Fitzgerald intercepted ten passes in his 2023 season, returning two of them for scores.
In the 2025 cycle, Miami is hoping to sign a gifted defensive back class. Five players in the secondary have committed to the Hurricanes thus far: four-star Hylton Stubbs, four-star Jaboree Antoine, four-star Amari Wallace, four-star Chris Ewald, and three-star Timothy Merritt.
