Ro Torrence, a promising young cornerback who played college football for Auburn and Arizona State, has signed with the Chicago Bears after being waived by the Seattle Seahawks. Torrence, a 6-foot-3 rookie who went undrafted in the most recent NFL Draft, has quickly found a new home in the league with the Bears.
Torrence’s journey to the NFL has been marked by significant achievements. Before making his mark in the professional ranks, he gained notable recognition during his college career. Torrence, who initially played at Hutchinson Community College, was a standout performer in junior college football. His exceptional play in the 2020 season, which culminated in his team winning the national championship, earned him the prestigious NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year award. His performance at Hutchinson helped pave the way for his subsequent transfers to Auburn and Arizona State, where he continued to demonstrate his potential as a defensive asset.
In a corresponding roster move to accommodate Torrence, the Bears waived long snapper Cameron Lyons. This adjustment reflects the team’s commitment to strengthening their secondary, a move that aligns with their ongoing efforts to enhance their defensive lineup.
Currently, the Bears’ secondary features a mix of experienced starters and emerging talents. Jaylon Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, and Kyler Gordon hold the starting positions, while Jaylon Jones, Terell Smith, Greg Stroman, Josh Blackwell, and Leon Jones serve as backups, both on the outside and in the slot. Torrence’s addition to this group introduces further competition and depth to the defensive backfield, as he joins a crowded secondary with a chance to prove himself and secure a spot on the roster.
