The Tennessee Titans, one of the league’s most run-heavy teams, are entering a new era under a new coach that is expected to move them toward a more modern attack for the first time in a long time. The team had a quiet but significant offseason.
Upgrades in the wide receiver area, which has historically been a weak position year in and year out for this team, were a major component of that philosophical shift. Fortunately for Titans supporters, following some devastating injury news earlier in the week, one important member of that room recently received a positive update.
The veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is indeed out “several weeks” due to a knee injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. However, Callahan, the new head coach of the Titans, emphasized that no surgery is necessary and that Hopkins should be back after four weeks, meaning that Week 1 availability is still the goal.
After Will Levis took over at quarterback last season, Hopkins and the rookie second-round pick hit it off right away. Hopkins finished the season with 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns on 75 receptions.
He was expected to start as the team’s top receiver once more, but with Calvin Ridley joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, he should also have plenty more support this season.
After serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals for several years, Callahan is well-acquainted with Tyler Boyd, who also joined the team in free agency.
A healthy Hopkins will be necessary for the Titans to attempt to throw the ball more frequently than they have in the past.
Following a serious injury scare, the Titans camp has released some positive news.
