The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded right-handed pitcher Ricky Vanasco to the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations. Vanasco, who is 25 years old, made his MLB debut with the Dodgers on April 15, appearing in two games as a reliever. During his brief stint in the major leagues, he allowed three runs on three hits across two innings, resulting in a 13.50 ERA and one strikeout.
At the Triple-A level with the Oklahoma City Dodgers this season, Vanasco has posted a 3.47 ERA with a 0-2 record and five saves in 24 relief appearances.
Vanasco was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He joined the Dodgers on June 1, 2023, when he was acquired in a trade involving left-handed prospect Luis Valdez.
This move represents a minor adjustment for both teams, with the Dodgers gaining financial flexibility and the Tigers adding depth to their bullpen. Vanasco’s performance at Triple-A indicates he could be a valuable asset to the Tigers’ pitching staff as they look to bolster their relief options.
