Veteran safety Quandre Diggs has signed to a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, which may be worth up to $5 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Diggs announced his excitement on social media, referring to it as the “long awaited news” and reaffirming his decision to join the Titans.
The 11-year NFL veteran, who has played for the Seattle Seahawks for the last five seasons, elected to sign with Tennessee this summer after becoming a free agent.
The parameters of Diggs’ contract were broken down by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. They include a $3 million basic pay, $1 million in performance-based incentives, and another $1 million in incentives depending on playing time.
Coming off a stellar season with the Seahawks in which he produced a career-high 95 tackles, five passes deflected, and an interception, Diggs is a three-time Pro Bowler. In order to save $27.5 million, the Seahawks cut both Diggs and fellow safety Jamal Adams in March, despite Diggs’ strong performance.
Diggs reunites with Jamal Adams, who inked a contract with Tennessee in July, upon joining the Titans. The two will try to improve the Titans secondary, which had a rough campaign in which it gave up 21.6 points and 335.1 yards per game on average. It is anticipated that their arrival will significantly strengthen Tennessee’s defensive backfield.
The Titans, who took home the AFC South in 2021, have had difficulties in the last two seasons, going 7-10 and 6-11 respectively. The franchise intends to strengthen its defense and go back into the playoffs with the addition of seasoned players like Diggs and Adams. Tennessee has added players in an attempt to strengthen its roster and improve its competitiveness ahead of the 2019–20 season.
