Concerns about the Packers preseason are raised by Jordan Love’s injury concern.
Thankfully, Jordan Love is fine after spending some time at practice with the trainer.
Fans of the Green Bay Packers held their breath for a moment.
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Jordan Love was “walking gingerly” and had trainer Bryan Engel examine his knee. While the injuries didn’t appear to be serious, Schneidman tried his best to soothe supporters, saying that it’s a frightening reminder of how rapidly things can change.
Fans of the Packers recall the suffering of the 2015 preseason. Jordy Nelson suffered a season-ending knee injury on an apparently innocuous reception, which swiftly destroyed the team’s hopes. For a large portion of the season, Green Bay’s offense failed to get out of first gear and lost rhythm without him. Although they managed to secure a wild-card slot, the Packers were not the same in Nelson’s absence.
A wound to Love would mean an even more dismal future.
Love will play in the preseason, according to head coach Matt LaFleur, but should he?
Is Jordan Love going to be included in the Packers’ preseason?
LaFleur’s choice might have been impacted by recollections of the Packers’ humiliating 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints and their equally depressing 23-7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in back-to-back season openers. Those years, Green Bay withheld its starting lineup in the preseason and faltered badly when Week 1 arrived.
Last year, after LaFleur gave his starters plenty of preseason playing time, Soldier Field hosted an overwhelming Week 1 triumph.
But it’s not really that easy. Risk-reward is the main focus of the preseason.
“Smart” is how LaFleur described his approach to the starters. It’s not as simple as it seems. Love escaped serious injury at Thursday’s practice, but it serves as a reminder of how easily one play can go horribly wrong.
Aaron Rodgers was adamant that the most crucial work was done on the practice field, even though preseason repetitions are beneficial.
“In practice, playing against our defense, it’s multiple looks, fronts, personnel groupings, pressures, coverages,” Rodgers stated in 2017. “That to me is more what you’re going to see in a game than preseason.”
The possibility of harm? extremely genuine.
Love’s injury scare is unlikely to cause LaFleur to alter his position; it’s a risk-reward situation that all teams must contend with. Preseason offers the chance to get important reps, but there is a big risk involved.
Love and standout wide receiver Christian Watson have both experienced injury scares this past week. Though fortunately none of them is hurt, it does cast doubt on the preseason.
