**Chiefs Waive Gerrit Prince and Re-Sign Familiar Face at Tight End**
The Kansas City Chiefs have made a roster adjustment by waiving tight end Gerrit Prince and adding Izaiah Gathings to fill the spot. This move comes as the team begins full training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.
According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, Prince, who joined the Chiefs last August on the practice squad, has been released. He did not play in any games last season and ended the year on the injured list with a foot issue. Despite being re-signed to a reserve/futures contract in the spring, Prince’s chances were cut short after he was seen at camp wearing a walking boot and not participating in practices.
In response, the Chiefs have brought back Izaiah Gathings, a familiar face who previously spent time with the team. Gathings, a product of Middle Tennessee State, was with the Chiefs intermittently over the past year. He played in three preseason games last year, catching one pass for five yards, but did not make the final 53-man roster. After being waived in May and briefly joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, he returns to Kansas City to fill the tight end spot.
Despite these changes, the Chiefs’ top tight ends are likely set, including Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, Jared Wiley, and Irv Smith Jr., though the latter two may not yet be in a fixed order. Prince was competing with Baylor Cupp for depth, a role Gathings will now take on.
With training camp underway and a need for additional bodies, the Chiefs’ decision to re-sign Gathings is a strategic move to bolster their tight end group.
