The Dallas Mavericks have waived young forward Alex Fudge to finalize their signing of Kessler Edwards to a two-way contract. Edwards, who has demonstrated promise as a versatile 3&D player with both the Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings, is expected to be a valuable addition for the Mavericks.
To accommodate Edwards, the Mavericks released Fudge from his two-way contract. Fudge, an undrafted free agent from Florida, was entering his second season. After spending time with the LA Lakers, he joined the Mavericks in March and appeared in two games, scoring 11 points.
During the NBA Summer League, Fudge averaged 4.6 points per game over 13 minutes, which likely did not convince the Mavericks to keep him. Newly drafted Melvin Ajinca often played ahead of him in Las Vegas.
Edwards, standing at 6’8″, presents an intriguing developmental prospect. His size and athleticism enable him to defend various positions, and he has shown a promising three-point shot since his time at Pepperdine. Although Olivier-Maxence Prosper might have a higher long-term potential, Edwards could be more NBA-ready at this stage.
