Latest Oilers News: Just In Edmonton Oilers Officially Announce The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Fans Favourite Star

**Oscar Klefbom Announces Retirement from Professional Hockey**

Oscar Klefbom, the former defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers, has officially retired from professional hockey, ending a career marked by both impressive achievements and significant injury struggles. The Swedish defenseman, once considered a cornerstone of the Oilers’ blue line, has decided to step away from the game after dealing with persistent injuries that kept him off the ice for the past few seasons.

While Klefbom’s retirement was anticipated by many, it marks the end of what might have been an outstanding NHL career. Drafted 19th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Klefbom was viewed as a high-potential defenseman with excellent size, skating, and hockey sense. He quickly became a fan favorite in Edmonton, admired for his on-ice performance as well as his leadership and character.

Throughout his career, Klefbom appeared in 378 regular-season games for the Oilers, scoring 34 goals and adding 122 assists for a total of 156 points. His standout season came in 2016-2017, when he recorded career highs of 12 goals and 38 points in 82 games, playing a key role in helping the Oilers make the playoffs for the first time in a decade. His performance during that season cemented his status as a dependable, two-way defenseman capable of logging significant minutes and contributing offensively.

Unfortunately, Klefbom’s career was marred by injuries, particularly recurring shoulder problems that limited his ice time. Following shoulder surgery in March 2021, he missed the entire 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons. Despite his efforts to recover and return to the sport, the injuries ultimately forced him to retire.

Though his playing career has ended, Klefbom’s impact on the Oilers is lasting. He will be remembered as a crucial player during a significant era for the team, contributing to their return to the playoffs and providing stability on defense. As he moves on to the next chapter of his life, the hockey community and Oilers fans wish him all the best. His contributions to the sport, especially in Edmonton, will be remembered, highlighting his skill, dedication, and resilience.
