The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed forward Kessler Edwards to a two-way contract, as announced on Thursday. This move was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium in late July.
Standing at 6-foot-7, Edwards previously played 54 games for the Sacramento Kings last season, where he averaged 1.7 points and 5.1 minutes per game. Over his career, which includes stints with the Kings and Brooklyn Nets, Edwards has averaged 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 11.9 minutes in 138 games. The Nets originally selected him with the 44th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
With the Mavericks, Edwards will don the No. 20 jersey. To accommodate his signing, the Mavericks have waived two-way forward Alex Fudge.
Fudge played in two games for Dallas during the 2023-24 season and had a recent stint with the team in the NBA 2K25 Summer League, where he averaged 4.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 13.1 minutes in five games.
Under the current NBA rules, teams can have up to three players on two-way contracts, who are eligible to play in up to 50 regular season games. Players on these contracts will earn $578,577 for the 2024-25 season, which is half of the NBA rookie minimum salary.
