Breaking: San Antonio Spurs Officially Announced The Departure Of Another Top Experienced Man

**Darius Songaila Leaves Spurs Staff After Six Years, Eyeing Lithuania Head Coach Position**

SAN ANTONIO – Darius Songaila and the San Antonio Spurs have mutually agreed to part ways after six years, with Songaila now exploring new career opportunities. The former Lithuanian national team player is reportedly in discussions about becoming the head coach of Lithuania’s national team.

Songaila confirmed that his time with the Spurs, where he had been since 2018, has concluded following a conversation with coach Gregg Popovich.

“We reached a point where it was necessary to make a change since there were no further advancement opportunities,” Songaila explained. “I was no longer content with being a second assistant. The first assistant roles are locked in with four-year contracts, so moving up wasn’t possible. After discussing this with Pop, he agreed that it would be best for me to seek a new path. We both felt it was time for a change.”

Prior to coaching, Songaila had a diverse NBA playing career with stints in Sacramento, Washington, Chicago, New Orleans, and Philadelphia.

“San Antonio became like a second home to me. It was my first coaching role abroad, and I gained invaluable experience with the Spurs. Leaving is difficult, but having been in the same position for three years without prospects for advancement, it was the right time to move on.”

Songaila has reportedly received a few NBA offers but is also a candidate for the recently vacated head coach position with the Lithuanian national team.
