The bottom six of the Calgary Flames are having trouble producing, but nothing is really new. One of them was rookie forward Dillon Dube, who delighted Flames supporters worldwide by making the roster this season.
However, he hasn’t been able to find offense as frequently as he would want, so this send-down isn’t entirely shocking. In 20 games, he has just one goal and five points. Even though he plays on a line that isn’t particularly talented offensively and only gets a small amount of minutes, he has still had opportunities. He has been having trouble finding the back of the goal, though, and hasn’t been able to bury those opportunities.
While Dube was a member of the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, the Flames selected him in the second round of the 2016 draft. He earned to start for the Flames on opening night after being selected the captain of Team Canada at the World Juniors and winning a gold medal, as well as having a fantastic season with the Rockets and the Stockton Heat.
However, he hasn’t been seeing success as readily. I have no problem with him increasing his ice time in Stockton and honing his professional skills. When the Flames play the LA Kings tomorrow night, it appears like Ryan Lomberg might start in place of the injured player, which bothers me.
Given that Andrew Mangiapane also plays LW, I would much rather have him over Dube. Even though Spencer Foo might be having a rough patch, I still think he’s better than him. It’s obvious that switching Dube for Lomberg isn’t the answer, but I suppose the team might be hanging out for Michael Frolik to recover from his injury.
