**DT Donta Simpson Commits to Miami After Leaving Maryland**
Donta Simpson, a defensive tackle from Chaminade-Madonna Prep, has announced his commitment to the University of Miami, reversing his earlier decision to join Maryland. Simpson made his announcement on social media, expressing gratitude and excitement about joining the Hurricanes.
Simpson, a three-star recruit rated as the 122nd defensive lineman for the 2025 class, had a notable visit to Miami’s summer event, which led to an offer and conversations with current Miami freshman safety Zaquan Patterson. His commitment adds to Miami’s growing 2025 recruiting class, which now ranks ninth nationally, according to 247Sports. This makes Simpson the 20th recruit and the second defensive lineman in this class for the Hurricanes.
The visit during the Hurricanes’ first fall practice strengthened Simpson’s resolve to join the team he has long admired. Growing up a Miami fan, Simpson said, “I’ve been looking at Miami my whole life. I always wanted to play for them,” and noted that the campus feels like a family.
Last season, Simpson recorded 43 tackles, including 19.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles, contributing significantly to Chaminade-Madonna Prep’s Class 1M state championship victory.
Simpson had previously committed to Maryland over offers from West Virginia and FAU in June. Miami has a history of recruiting Chaminade-Madonna Prep players, including Patterson and freshman wide receiver JoJo Trader, with senior Chris Ewald also committed to the Hurricanes.
