**Texans Sign Veteran Offensive Lineman*
While celebrating Andre Johnson’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the Houston Texans made a roster move by signing veteran offensive lineman Cameron Erving. The specific terms of Erving’s contract have not been disclosed.
To make room for Erving, the Texans released offensive lineman Jaylon Thomas.
Erving, 31, was a first-round draft pick from Florida State in 2015. Known for his versatility, he has played at all five offensive line positions throughout his nine-year career. Originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns, Erving began his career at right guard before transitioning to center.
In 2018, Erving was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played both left tackle and right guard. He earned one of his best grades from Pro Football Focus during his time with the Chiefs and was a key player on the Chiefs’ offensive line during their Super Bowl-winning season in 2019.
Following his stint with Kansas City, Erving has had roles with the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. Over his career, he has started 58 of 98 games, with his most effective position being left tackle. Most recently, he started two games for the Saints late last season and played nine games at left tackle for the Panthers in 2021, before moving to a swing tackle role in 2022.
Erving, who also won a national championship at Florida State, will join the Texans as they prepare for their preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.
