The Boston Bruins have re-signed forward Marc McLaughlin to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000, leaving goaltender Jeremy Swayman as the only remaining restricted free agent yet to be signed.
McLaughlin, who hails from Billerica and will turn 25 on July 26, is looking to regain some momentum in his career. After being signed by the Bruins as an undrafted free agent from Boston College in the spring of 2022, he made an immediate impact by scoring three goals in 11 games. Despite a strong performance in training camp that September, he was unexpectedly cut and only appeared in two NHL games for a Bruins team that went on to win a record 65 games. He spent most of that season with the Providence Bruins, where he recorded 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 66 games.
However, last season proved to be more challenging for McLaughlin, as his scoring diminished to just 8 goals and 6 assists for 14 points in 68 games with Providence.
This offseason, the Bruins have added several players to their bottom six forward group, including Mark Kastelic (acquired in the Linus Ullmark trade), Max Jones, and Riley Tufte (both signed as free agents). With these new additions, McLaughlin is likely to start the season as part of the leadership group in Providence, though he would need to clear waivers to be assigned there.
Meanwhile, Bruins fans continue to anticipate the completion of Swayman’s contract, which is expected to take up a significant portion of the approximately $8.6 million remaining in the team’s salary cap space.
