Done Deal: Just In Edmonton Oilers Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced Superstar From Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Vasily Podkolzin to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, as announced by both teams on Sunday evening.

Podkolzin, 23, recorded two assists in 19 games with the Canucks during the 2023-24 regular season and played in two playoff games without registering any points. The Canucks originally selected him 10th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. Last season, the 6’1″ right winger spent most of his time with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, where he scored 15 goals and tallied 28 points in 44 games.

Vancouver’s general manager, Patrik Allvin, expressed gratitude for Podkolzin’s contributions, stating, “We would like to thank Vasily for his time here with the Canucks. Podz put in a lot of work both on and off the ice, and we wish him all the best in Edmonton.”

Podkolzin recently signed a new contract with Vancouver in April, securing his services for the next two seasons with a $1 million cap hit. He will be eligible to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights in the 2026 offseason.

The Oilers obtained the fourth-round pick they used in the Podkolzin trade back in July, during a deal with the Ottawa Senators involving Xavier Bourgault, Jake Chiasson, and Roby Jarventie.

For Edmonton, Podkolzin could potentially replace forward Dylan Holloway, who recently signed a two-year offer sheet with the St. Louis Blues. If the Oilers choose not to match Holloway’s offer, they will receive a 2025 third-round pick from the Blues as compensation.

Additionally, the Oilers are facing decisions regarding defenseman Philip Broberg, who also signed an offer sheet with St. Louis. If Edmonton does not match, they will receive a second-round pick in compensation.

With this trade, the Canucks now hold seven picks in the 2025 NHL Draft, missing only their third-round selection.
