LSU has successfully flipped four-star cornerback Kade Phillips from his commitment to Texas, marking a significant recruiting win for head coach Brian Kelly. This comes shortly after LSU secured a three-star tight end over the weekend.
Phillips, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback from Missouri City, Texas, plays for Hightower High School. As he prepares for his senior season with the Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes, who finished 12-2 last year, he now looks ahead to joining the Tigers in 2025.
Phillips is the 24th commitment in LSU’s 2025 recruiting class and the second cornerback in the group, joining five-star DJ Pickett from Zephyrhills, Florida. With these additions, LSU’s 2025 class currently ranks third in the nation, behind only Ohio State and Alabama.
In recent seasons, Kelly has often relied on the transfer portal to bolster LSU’s secondary. However, with commitments like Phillips, it seems he’s shifting his strategy toward developing high school talent to strengthen the back end of his defense.
