Breaking: Nick Saban Admits What ‘Worried’ Him Most About Alabama This Season And Send Strong Two Words Message To BAMA Fans

**Nick Saban Joins ESPN’s “College GameDay” as Alabama Begins a New Chapter**

The upcoming college football season will look a bit different without Nick Saban, widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in the sport’s history, patrolling the sidelines. The former Alabama head coach, who led the Crimson Tide to six national championships from 2007 to 2023, has transitioned to a new role as an analyst on ESPN’s “College GameDay.” Although he’s no longer wearing a headset or blowing a whistle, Saban still has the opportunity to share his insights on Alabama.

During the season’s first episode of “College GameDay,” broadcast from Dublin, Ireland, Saban discussed the current state of the Alabama team. He expressed confidence in his successor, Kalen DeBoer, while admitting he had initial concerns about the defense.

“Kalen has done a really good job,” Saban commented. “He’s had to fill some gaps because many players transferred. But I believe in Alabama, with Jalen Milroe and the two running backs they have. I was concerned about the defense at first, but their performance in the scrimmage really impressed me. They’ve made great progress.”

DeBoer’s most significant challenge was replacing SEC Freshman of the Year and first-team All-SEC safety Caleb Downs, who transferred to Ohio State after Saban’s retirement. Despite his youth, Downs was considered one of the top players in the country.

However, DeBoer inherited a strong recruiting class from Saban, including three five-star defensive backs. He also brought in several transfers from the portal, most notably Michigan’s Keon Sabb. Additionally, DeBoer hired Kane Wommack, the former South Alabama head coach, as the defensive coordinator. Wommack’s defense at South Alabama was ranked 15th nationally last season.

Offensively, Alabama boasts one of the top quarterbacks in the country, and DeBoer’s offensive expertise could lead to even better performances from Jalen Milroe.

The DeBoer era for Alabama will officially begin on Saturday, August 31, when the Crimson Tide open their season against Western Kentucky.
