Breaking: Top Basketball Recruit Officially Commits To Kentucky Wildcats

Top basketball recruit Jasper Johnson is expected to make his college commitment soon, and many speculate he might choose Kentucky. A highly sought-after prospect in the 2025 class, Johnson is a 6-foot-4, 175-pound shooting guard from Central Kentucky, currently playing his senior year at Overtime Elite in Atlanta. Johnson’s recruitment has attracted attention, especially from Kentucky fans who have followed him for years. His father, Dennis Johnson, is a former football player at Kentucky and the NFL and now serves as a football coach and athletic director in Kentucky.

Johnson is ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 10 overall player in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite. His recruitment journey has been complex, featuring several coaching changes and shifts in school preferences. His final list of colleges includes Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and North Carolina. However, the decision seems to be primarily between Alabama, Kentucky, and North Carolina, with Kentucky emerging as the current favorite.

Kentucky’s new head coach, Mark Pope, has played a significant role in Johnson’s recruitment. Pope’s efforts to prioritize Johnson, including traveling to see him play in multiple tournaments, have positioned Kentucky as a leading contender. Previously, Alabama was the frontrunner, but recent developments suggest Kentucky might secure Johnson’s commitment, a move that would be a significant win for Pope and his 2025 recruiting class, which already includes another top prospect, Malachi Moreno.

Securing Johnson would strengthen Kentucky’s standing in the 2025 recruiting rankings and reflect well on Pope’s recruiting capabilities, especially given the competitive nature of Johnson’s recruitment against strong programs like Alabama and North Carolina.
