The Green Bay Packers have waived defensive lineman Kenneth Odumegwu, the team announced on Wednesday.
Odumegwu, originally from Nigeria, joined the Packers on May 4 as part of the NFL International Player Pathway program. He was discovered playing basketball in Nigeria by former NFL player Osi Umenyiora, who saw his potential for football. Odumegwu attended a football camp in Ghana hosted by Umenyiora, where he was positioned as a defensive lineman.
Instead of Odumegwu, the Packers have chosen to use their NFL International Player Pathway spot for kicker Alex Hale. Hale, who joined the team two weeks ago, will not count against the 90-player roster. He did not participate in the first two preseason games.
During his final year at Oklahoma State in 2023, Hale made 27 out of 34 field goal attempts, including 3 out of 4 from beyond 50 yards. Throughout his college career, he successfully completed 43 out of 54 field goals, with his longest being 53 yards.
