Done Deal: Just In Philadelphia Eagles Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Experienced NFL Superstar To Active Roster

**Eagles Acquire DT Byron Young**
The Philadelphia Eagles have claimed defensive tackle Byron Young off waivers, following his release by the Las Vegas Raiders, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL.com. Young, one of two players named Byron Young selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, was chosen 70th overall from Alabama. During his rookie season with the Raiders, he played in six games and logged 99 defensive snaps. Unlike the Los Angeles Rams’ Byron Young, an edge rusher from Tennessee who showed more potential, the Eagles have opted to take a chance on the other Byron Young. Young still has three years left on his rookie contract.

The Raiders initially picked Young with their first third-round selection last year and later chose wide receiver Tre Tucker, who is expected to have a more significant role in his second season after the team parted ways with Hunter Renfrow. Additionally, Las Vegas invested heavily in free-agent Christian Wilkins, further reducing Young’s opportunities. The Raiders also waived defensive lineman Matthew Butler, a fifth-round pick from 2022, who subsequently joined their practice squad. Young’s availability on waivers made him an appealing option for teams.

At 23 years old, Young joins a strong defensive tackle group in Philadelphia that includes former first-round picks Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, as well as third-rounder Milton Williams. The Eagles’ defensive line, which also includes Marlon Tuipulotu, will see Young as one of their seven linemen, learning under Vic Fangio’s defensive scheme following Fletcher Cox’s retirement.

Young’s college career at Alabama included first-team All-SEC honors in 2022, when he recorded four sacks and five tackles for loss. In 2021, he registered nine tackles for loss and two sacks. Despite being a high draft pick, Young’s release after just one year was unexpected, particularly as the Raiders underwent a management change, replacing Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels with Tom Telesco as GM. Antonio Pierce, who was on the staff when Young was drafted, served as the linebackers coach at that time. The Eagles are now set to assess Young’s capabilities moving forward.
