ESPN REPORT: New York Knicks Reported Agree Deal To Sign Another Top Experienced NBA All-Star

The New York Knicks are reportedly exploring trade options to bolster their center position following Isaiah Hartenstein’s departure to the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency. Although they have been linked to various centers, no deals have been finalized thus far.

One potential target for the Knicks is Walker Kessler of the Utah Jazz. According to a report by Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Knicks have engaged in discussions with the Jazz about acquiring Kessler. “Per multiple sources, Utah has discussed Kessler previously in trade, including a stalled conversation with the New York Knicks. He doesn’t seem part of the team’s long-term plan,” Pincus stated.

However, it appears that no significant progress has been made in these talks, and a player like Kessler might require the Knicks to part with valuable draft picks, which could be a sticking point. Despite the stalled negotiations, Kessler could address several needs for the Knicks and provide valuable depth for the 2024-25 season.

Kessler is known for his exceptional defensive abilities, particularly his shot-blocking and rebounding. Since entering the league in the 2022-23 season, he has averaged 2.4 blocks and 8.0 rebounds per game, quickly establishing himself as one of the top interior defenders.

Currently, the Knicks have Mitchell Robinson as their starting center, with Precious Achiuwa likely serving as the backup. While both players are talented, Robinson’s injury history and the lack of size on the bench have prompted the Knicks to seek a replacement for Hartenstein.

Adding Kessler could be an ideal solution for the Knicks, providing them with a reliable backup center who could step into a starting role if needed. His presence would also address the team’s size concerns by adding another seven-footer to the roster.

With training camp just a month away, interest in Kessler may increase, and the Knicks are expected to be among the teams actively pursuing the young center, potentially looking to strike a deal.
