Good News: Just In Las Vegas Raiders Officially Announced The Signing Of Two Top Experienced Superstars

**Raiders Add Former Giants CB and Convert Ex-Bills WR to TE**

The Las Vegas Raiders are beginning the regular season with a setback as cornerback Brandon Facyson has been placed on Injured Reserve. To address this, the team quickly signed former New York Giants cornerback Darnay Holmes to their active roster on August 28.

Holmes is expected to fit seamlessly into the Raiders’ defensive system, having previously played under current Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham when they were both with the Giants in 2020 and 2021. Graham’s familiarity with Holmes likely played a key role in bringing him to Las Vegas.

Holmes, a former fourth-round pick from UCLA, played in 54 games and started 11 during his four seasons with the Giants. He has recorded four interceptions and defended 18 passes in his career. The Raiders are projected to start Jack Jones and Jakorian Bennett as their two outside cornerbacks in Week 1. While Jones is a confirmed starter, Bennett’s position isn’t as secure. If Bennett struggles early on, Holmes could quickly be promoted due to his understanding of Graham’s defensive scheme. The Raiders have been cautious in addressing their cornerback needs but seem confident with Holmes’ addition.

**Raiders Sign Justin Shorter, Former WR, to Practice Squad**

After making their initial roster cuts, the Raiders kept only three tight ends on their active roster but added depth to their practice squad by signing Justin Shorter on August 29. Shorter, along with John Samuel Shenker, now occupies one of the two tight end spots on the practice squad.

Interestingly, Shorter, a 2023 fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills, was originally drafted as a wide receiver. However, the Raiders are transitioning him to the tight end position. At 6-foot-4 with a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, Shorter possesses the size and speed to potentially thrive as a tight end. Despite his athleticism, he will need time to adjust to his new role.

**Tom Telesco on Roster Changes**

Although the Raiders have finalized their 53-man roster, changes could still occur in the lead-up to their first game against the Los Angeles Chargers. General manager Tom Telesco acknowledged the players who made the initial roster but emphasized that nothing is set in stone.

Speaking at a press conference on August 27, Telesco said, “For the younger players fighting for a spot, today might feel good, but in this business, it’s a day-to-day league. You can’t afford to relax; you need to prepare for the next practice.” He added that the focus has shifted from training camp and preseason games to getting ready for the Chargers.

With limited roster spots available, the Raiders are prepared to make swift decisions regarding any players who do not maintain high performance levels.
