Done Deal: Houston Texans Officially Announce The Signing Of Another Top Talented Player.

On August 28, 2024, at 12:52 PM Central Daylight Time, rookie defensive tackle Marcus Harris miraculously cleared waivers and joined to the practice squad. Marcus Harris sat on the waiver wire, vulnerable to any opposing NFL team, for twenty agonising hours in an attempt to claim gems in the rough. Rather than grant him a position on the roster, the Houston Texans allowed one of their most promising late-round draft picks in recent memory to remain unsigned for 20 hours.

By some miracle, rookie defensive tackle Marcus Harris was able to clear waivers and join the practice squad on August 28, 2024, at 12:52 PM Central Daylight Time. Marcus Harris spent twenty excruciating hours waiting to collect pearls in the rough by sitting on the waiver wire, open to any opposition NFL team. The Houston Texans let one of their most promising late-round draft prospects in recent memory go unsigned for twenty hours instead of giving him a spot on the roster.

But even with all of my gushing about Marcus Harris, it wasn’t like he was dominating the opposition. Harris played the majority of Houston’s final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, making both good and negative plays during the course of the day. He produced huge plays like as this one, in which Rams running back SoRodorick Thompson (#27) was forced into the backfield by his strength and drive:

But, in the very next play where Los Angeles decides to attempt the two-point conversion, you can see Harris getting the best of McAllister right off the snap, placing himself directly in front of Evans and leading him straight into the open arms of fellow practice squad signee Malik Fisher (#79).

For a rookie selected in the seventh round, this is really outstanding. Rookies selected so low in the draft might never even get to play! Harris has not only participated in the preseason, but he has also perhaps been one of the Houston Texans’ most outstanding players. Harris got the third-highest PFF score of the eight Texans who played 100+ snaps during the preseason, with 67.4. Only practice squad members Solomon Byrd (69.8) and D’Angelo Ross (77.8) scored higher than Harris.
