ESPN REPORT: Just In Dallas Cowboys Officially Release Three Top Experienced Superstars To From Training Today

1.

Racey McMath

The Cowboys waived wide receiver McMath on Tuesday.

McMath, who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, has played in 14 regular-season games. After being released by the Colts in October, he joined the Cowboys’ practice squad in early January. Despite a solid showing in training camp, where he caught five passes for 80 yards on eight targets across three preseason games, McMath did not make the 53-man roster. If he clears waivers, he will likely seek to join a team that needs depth at wide receiver, possibly landing on a practice squad.

2.

Julius Wood

Julius Wood and Eric Scott Jr. were notably absent from the Cowboys’ practice squad after being picked up by other NFL teams.

Following the reduction of their roster to 53 players, the Cowboys aimed to bring back up to 16 players to the practice squad. However, once players with fewer than four years of NFL experience are cut, they are subject to the waiver wire, and other teams have the opportunity to claim them.

The Cowboys lost two defensive backs they had hoped to retain: safety Julius Wood and cornerback Eric Scott Jr. During the preseason, Wood made nine tackles and two interceptions, but with Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell, Juanyeh Thomas, and Israel Mukuamu ahead of him, there wasn’t enough room on the roster. Wood was claimed by the Tennessee Titans before the Cowboys could add him to their practice squad.

Eric Scott Jr., a sixth-round draft pick by Dallas last year, had yet to play in a regular-season game. Despite a solid preseason, he was unlikely to be signed to the practice squad. Instead, the Kansas City Chiefs claimed him off waivers and traded a 2026 late-round draft pick to the Cowboys for tight end Peyton Hendershot.
