Breaking: Another Texas Rangers Top Veteran Officially Sign With Rivals After Rejecting New Deal At Rangers

The Kansas City Royals have bolstered their roster by claiming outfielders Tommy Pham from the St. Louis Cardinals and Robbie Grossman from the Texas Rangers off waivers, as reported by Katie Woo of The Athletic. The Royals hope these additions will strengthen their lineup as they remain in contention in the AL Central division race.

“Kansas City Royals have claimed Tommy Pham off waivers, per a source,” Woo posted on her X account, formerly known as Twitter. “The Royals are in the thick of the AL Central race, just 2 1/2 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians. Pham brings a veteran presence with considerable postseason experience.”

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale noted that the Royals were interested in acquiring Pham before the trade deadline when he was with the Chicago White Sox. Now, they’ve successfully claimed him from the Cardinals to help them push for a playoff spot.

This season, Pham has split his time between the Chicago White Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals, compiling seven home runs, 31 RBIs, a .254 batting average, and six stolen bases. Meanwhile, Grossman has recorded three home runs, 14 RBIs, a .227 batting average, and three stolen bases. The Royals, currently second in the AL Wild Card race with a record of 75-61, are four games behind the leading Baltimore Orioles (78-58) and aim to catch up to the Cleveland Guardians at the top of the AL Central division.

In other news, the Royals suffered a tough 3-2 walk-off loss to the Houston Astros on Friday night. Despite a strong performance from starting pitcher Seth Lugo, who allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts, the Royals fell short. Paul DeJong’s two-run homer tied the game in the ninth inning, but Jose Altuve’s walk-off double ultimately secured the win for Houston.

The Royals are currently on a three-game losing streak and will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against the Astros on Saturday.
