The Los Angeles Rams have traded linebacker Ernest Jones to the Tennessee Titans, a move that took many by surprise. In return, the Rams received a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and the Titans’ sixth-round pick for the same year. This trade came after reports surfaced that Jones was allowed to explore other team options. He was notably absent from practice on Monday, sparking rumors about his future. While Jones initially denied requesting a trade in a social media post, he later removed the post. The Rams’ head coach confirmed that Jones did not ask to be traded, describing the trade as a strategic decision for the team. The coaching staff believed that moving Jones was in the Rams’ best interest moving forward.
Jones had been a valuable asset for the Rams, significantly contributing over his three seasons with the team. He was instrumental in their Super Bowl LVI victory, where he recorded a sack in the championship game.
Jones was entering the final year of his rookie contract, having been drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and had hoped to finish his contract with the Rams. Now, he will continue his career with the Titans.
During his tenure with the Rams, Jones became a starter midway through his rookie season and consistently delivered over 100 tackles in the following years. In 2023, he set a franchise record with 145 tackles and added 4.5 sacks. With Jones now in Tennessee, the Rams will need to find a way to replace his experience at linebacker and will likely rely on younger players to fill the gap in their defense this season.
