Good News: Just In Stan Bowman Officially Announced The Signing Of Another Top Veteran To A 6 years Deal Worth $260 Million

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Leon Draisaitl to a historic eight-year contract extension worth $112 million, giving him the highest salary cap hit in NHL history at $14 million per year. This deal, announced by general manager Stan Bowman, will begin in the 2025-26 season and run through 2033.

Bowman described the extension as a monumental moment for the Oilers, emphasizing Draisaitl’s deep commitment to the team, city, and fans. Draisaitl, who was the league MVP in 2020, played a key role in helping Edmonton reach Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last year alongside Connor McDavid.

The Oilers prioritized getting Draisaitl signed, especially with his previous contract, averaging $8.5 million per year, set to expire. His new deal surpasses Auston Matthews’ $13.25 million cap hit and nearly doubles his current salary. Draisaitl has been a top performer, recording 850 points in 719 regular-season games and 108 points in 74 playoff games, ranking fourth all-time in points per game in the postseason.

With Draisaitl’s contract secured, the Oilers can now shift their focus to re-signing McDavid, who could become a free agent in 2026 and is eligible for an extension starting July 1.
