Breaking: Atlanta Falcons Officially Waived Top Experienced Fans Favorite Superstar After Declining New Contract

Josh Thompson: Waived After Injury Settlement

The Atlanta Falcons have officially waived defensive back Josh Thompson with an injury settlement, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Thompson had initially been waived in late August after sustaining an undisclosed injury, which placed him on the injured reserve (IR) list. Following this, he cleared waivers and reverted to the Falcons’ IR.

Before the settlement, Thompson was expected to miss the entire 2024 season due to the injury. However, the injury settlement now provides an opportunity for him to return to the field. Under the terms of the agreement, Thompson can join a new team once he has fully recovered from his injury. This settlement essentially releases him from being tied to the Falcons, allowing him to explore opportunities with other NFL teams after regaining his health.

Thompson, a former standout at the University of Texas, went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft but was later signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He spent time with the Jaguars before joining the Falcons, where he was looking to make an impact in their secondary before this setback. Injury settlements like these are common in the NFL, providing injured players with a pathway to recovery and potential future opportunities while relieving teams from carrying their contracts while they are unable to play.

For Thompson, the next step will be focusing on his recovery. Once he is medically cleared, he will have the chance to sign with another team, offering him the possibility of continuing his career in the NFL. It remains to be seen which teams might show interest in the defensive back once he becomes available.

While it’s unfortunate that Thompson’s time with the Falcons has been cut short due to injury, the settlement provides a chance for him to potentially continue his career elsewhere. He will now work on getting back to full health in hopes of making a return to the NFL in the near future.
