Waived After Injury Settlement
The Dallas Cowboys have waived defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko after agreeing to an injury settlement, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Fehoko sustained an undisclosed injury during the preseason, which initially led to his placement on the injured reserve (IR) list. With this settlement, Fehoko is now free to recover and potentially sign with another team once he is medically cleared.
The injury, whose specifics have not been disclosed, occurred before the start of the regular season, and the Cowboys placed Fehoko on IR this past Wednesday. Initially, his placement on the injured reserve would have sidelined him for the entire 2024 season, as NFL rules prevent players on IR from returning to play for the same team unless they are designated to return. However, injury settlements allow teams and players to part ways under mutually agreed terms, giving the player a chance to recover and sign with a new team once healthy.
