Chris Myarick: Signing with Texans’ Practice Squad
Chris Myarick is joining the Houston Texans’ practice squad after a successful workout on Thursday, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. The fullback had been cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 25, but has now found a new opportunity with Houston.
Myarick, 28, didn’t play during the 2023 season but has previous NFL experience, having suited up for 16 regular-season games with the New York Giants in 2022. Over the course of his career, he has registered 10 receptions for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Although Myarick has contributed as a receiver, he has yet to record any rushing attempts.
The decision to add Myarick to the practice squad provides the Texans with depth at the fullback position. Fullbacks have become less prominent in modern NFL offenses, but they still serve an important role in certain schemes, particularly for teams that value strong blocking in the run game or look to use versatile players in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Myarick’s ability to catch passes out of the backfield also gives him an edge as a potential dual-threat option.
While Myarick’s career statistics may not stand out, his experience and versatility make him a valuable addition to a practice squad.
