Breaking: Boston Bruins Fomer Top Experienced Fans Favorite Star Officially Announced He Wants To Return Bruins After Declining New Contract At Current Club

Former Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic’s potential NHL comeback has hit a roadblock, as reports claiming he had signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the New Jersey Devils have been debunked. Initially, mid-August rumors, sparked by Edmonton Oilers radio commentator Bob Stauffer, suggested Lucic was on the verge of joining the Devils to attempt a return ahead of the new season. However, New Jersey Hockey Now reporter James Nichols dismissed the reports, after contacting the Devils organization. A team spokesperson told Nichols on X (formerly Twitter) that the reports were “categorically untrue” and that Lucic had no agreement with the team. Furthermore, Nichols clarified that the situation lies with the NHL, and the Devils are not in a position to sign him at this time.

Insider Rick Dhaliwal later confirmed via Lucic’s agent, Gerry Johannson, that Lucic has not signed with any team. Dhaliwal added that Lucic must first be cleared by the NHL before any contract discussions can move forward. Lucic’s status remains unresolved due to his participation in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program following legal issues in 2023, including an arrest in Boston. While the charges were eventually dropped, Lucic has yet to be reinstated by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, leaving his future in the league uncertain. The 36-year-old last played for the Bruins during the 2023-24 season, recording two points in four games before taking a leave of absence.

Lucic’s comeback remains on hold until the NHL clears him to return, and no deals are currently in place.
