The Boston Bruins have officially signed goaltender Brandon Bussi to a one-year, two-way contract extension, solidifying his place within the organization for the upcoming season. The contract, which is valued at $775,000 at the NHL level, comes as the Bruins continue to build depth in their goaltending ranks. Bussi’s extension is a strategic move by the Bruins, who recognize the young goalie’s potential and are looking to further develop his talent in both the NHL and AHL.

Bussi, 25, has been a standout player since joining the Bruins organization in 2022. After signing as an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan University, he quickly proved his worth in the AHL, playing for the Providence Bruins. During the 2022-2023 season, Bussi showcased his skill and resilience, posting impressive numbers in the AHL with a 22-5-4 record, a 2.40 goals-against average, and a .924 save percentage over 32 games. His performance earned him recognition as one of the top goaltending prospects in the Bruins’ system.

A two-way contract means Bussi can be moved between the NHL and AHL without having to clear waivers, giving the Bruins flexibility. This setup allows the organization to call him up to the NHL if needed, while also ensuring he gets significant playing time and development opportunities with the Providence Bruins in the AHL.

Bussi’s signing also underscores the Bruins’ commitment to building a strong goaltending pipeline. The team’s goaltending duo of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman has been one of the best in the league, but having a capable third option like Bussi gives the Bruins valuable insurance should injuries or performance issues arise. Given his performance trajectory, the Bruins are likely counting on Bussi to continue his upward trend and push for an eventual NHL role.

Looking forward, Bussi will aim to impress in training camp and preseason, hoping to make his NHL debut at some point during the 2023-2024 season. His continued development in the AHL will be crucial for his long-term aspirations of securing a permanent spot in the NHL. The Bruins, with their history of developing strong goaltenders, are certainly optimistic about Bussi’s potential to make a significant impact in the future.

This contract extension not only reflects the Bruins’ confidence in Bussi’s abilities but also provides the young netminder with an opportunity to continue honing his skills and competing at a high level. With the 2023-2024 season on the horizon, all eyes will be on Bussi as he works toward earning his place in the NHL.
