One of LSU’s best freshman players is suffering a “fairly significant” toe injury, according to coach Brian Kelly’s statement on Thursday. Former Acadiana High five-star prospect Dominick McKinley had a setback in his turf toe recuperation, according to Kelly. He is anticipated to be sidelined for a minimum of two more weeks due to the injury. After that, LSU might try to include him in its defensive tackle lineup.
“He’s a young man that we have an eye towards playing this year,” Kelly stated, “but we gotta get him healthy first.” The first availability report of the season, which LSU is now required by the Southeastern Conference to provide twice a week prior to each in-conference game, did not include McKinley. A couple defensive tackles will have the opportunity to play more snaps in Jacobian Guillory’s absence, who will miss the remainder of the year while recovering from an Achilles injury.
McKinley might be a contender for one of those spots. He’ll have to wait for his injury to heal before, though. “There’s a lot of things going on in your first year, right?” stated Kelly. “He’s a college football player. He has class today.
