Breaking: Vancouver Canucks Officially Announced The Departure Of Another Top Experienced fans Favorite Superstar

Alex Edler is set to retire as a Vancouver Canuck after signing a one-day contract with the team. The Canucks announced that Edler, a long-time defenseman, will officially end his career with the franchise on Friday, October 11, during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Expressing his gratitude, Edler said, “I am humbled and honored to retire as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. I feel fortunate to have started my career with such an exceptional organization in an amazing city, with the best fans in the NHL. To finish my career where it all began is very special for me and my family.”

Edler, 38, was originally drafted by Vancouver 91st overall in the 2004 NHL Draft. He spent 15 of his 17 NHL seasons with the Canucks, playing in 925 games—fourth most in franchise history and the most by a defenseman.

During his time in Vancouver, he scored 99 goals and added 310 assists, totaling 409 points and 665 penalty minutes. His 409 points place him 12th among the Canucks’ all-time skaters. He also played in 82 playoff games with the Canucks, contributing to their 2011 run to the Stanley Cup Final.

Edler’s final NHL season was with the Los Angeles Kings in 2022-23, where he recorded 11 points in 64 games. In the previous season, he tallied 19 points in 41 games with the Kings. Over his career, the Östersund, Sweden native played in more than 1,030 NHL games, amassing 438 points between the Canucks and Kings.

On the international stage, Edler represented Sweden several times, winning gold at the 2013 and 2017 IIHF World Championships and silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
