Breaking: Another Former NASCAR team owner brutally attacked after crash

Former NASCAR driver and team owner Matt Tifft was involved in a violent altercation following a crash at an ASA STARS National Tour race in Toledo, Ohio. After being taken out of the race by Billy VanMeter, who eventually finished seventh, Tifft approached VanMeter’s team in the pit area to discuss the incident. The situation quickly escalated when Tifft swung at VanMeter, prompting members of VanMeter’s crew to respond physically. Tifft was put in a headlock, thrown to the ground, and then kicked in the face by Bryan Glaze, a crew member from VanMeter’s team.

While physical confrontations are not uncommon in racing, this incident crossed a line, with Tifft being defenseless during the attack. Although Tifft had initially stated that he didn’t intend to start a fight, he is now reconsidering his decision not to press charges, citing concerns about preventing similar behavior in the future.

Glaze later issued a public apology, explaining that he thought Tifft had knocked out VanMeter. However, a video released by VanMeter’s team revealed this was not the case. Glaze has since been dismissed from the team due to his actions. This incident isn’t Glaze’s first offense, and his history of unacceptable behavior may influence Tifft’s final decision on whether to take legal action.

Tifft’s NASCAR career was cut short in 2019 due to epilepsy, which forced him to retire before completing his rookie Cup Series season. He co-owned the Live Fast Motorsports team with driver B.J. McLeod, becoming NASCAR’s youngest team owner at 24. The team competed full-time for three seasons but sold its charter after 2023 and now races part-time in superspeedway events.

Tifft finished in seventh and sixth place in the Xfinity Series championship in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and recorded a top Cup Series finish of ninth at Daytona International Speedway in July 2019.
