Good News: Just In Warriors reportedly sign Another familiar face to training camp contract

The Golden State Warriors have made another roster move ahead of training camp, which starts in Hawaii on October 1. According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Warriors have signed guard Yuri Collins to a training camp deal. Collins is already familiar with the Warriors organization, having played with their G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors, last season.

After going undrafted in 2023, Collins initially joined the Warriors for Summer League before signing a training camp deal last October. Although he was waived before the regular season, he went on to play 50 games with Santa Cruz, averaging 5.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists in 22.2 minutes per game. Known as a pass-first point guard, Collins shot 45.8% from the floor and 39.7% from three-point range, having led the NCAA in assists in 2022 and 2023.

The 23-year-old guard also participated in this year’s Summer League, averaging 8.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists across five games in Las Vegas. While Collins is eligible for a two-way contract, it’s unlikely he will secure a spot over existing two-way players like Pat Spencer, Daeqwon Plowden, and Reece Beekman. This deal seems to ensure Collins stays with Santa Cruz, while providing the Warriors an extra point guard option during training camp.

Collins is not the only Santa Cruz player to sign a training camp deal, as forward Jackson Rowe signed with Golden State after Summer League in July. Rowe averaged 11 points and 6.5 rebounds in Las Vegas. Despite these signings, the futures of Rowe and Collins with the Warriors remain uncertain, especially with the team yet to make a decision on 52nd overall pick Quinten Post, who may take one of the two-way slots.
