Breaking: Boston Bruins Officially Part Ways With Another Top Experienced Defenseman In First Roster Cut

The Boston Bruins have made their first roster cut of the 2024 training camp, sending defenseman Loke Johansson back to the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL. Johansson, an 18-year-old defenseman, was drafted by the Bruins in the sixth round, 186th overall, in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Last season, Johansson played for AIK’s junior team in Sweden, where he appeared in 33 games, scoring five goals and recording a total of 13 points. In addition to his time with the junior team, he also got the opportunity to play 19 games with AIK’s professional team, registering one assist and maintaining a plus-1 rating.

As Johansson transitions to his first season with the Moncton Wildcats, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the QMJHL. Standing 6-foot-3, he has the size to develop into a solid defensive prospect. This season with the Wildcats will be an important step in his development, and Bruins fans and scouts will certainly be keeping a close eye on his progress.

While Johansson didn’t make the cut for the Bruins’ NHL roster this year, his return to junior hockey is expected to provide him with more opportunities to grow and refine his game. The move to the Wildcats offers him the chance to get more ice time and take on a larger role within the team, which will be crucial for his development as a player.

The Bruins, known for developing young talent, will continue to monitor Johansson as he works to further his skills in the QMJHL. Although he has been cut from training camp, the experience he gained there, combined with the opportunity to play in the QMJHL, sets him on a promising path for the future. He remains a prospect worth watching as he aims to make his mark and eventually earn a spot on the Bruins’ roster in the years to come.
